Sysco has agreed to a $2.3 million settlement to resolve allegations that it failed to protect consumer data during a 2023 cybersecurity incident. The lawsuit accuses Sysco of not implementing adequate cybersecurity practices, resulting in a data breach that exposed sensitive personal information of individuals across the U.S.
Sysco, one of the country’s largest food distribution companies, reportedly informed affected individuals about the breach in May 2023. Plaintiffs allege they suffered financial harm, time loss, and an increased risk of identity theft due to Sysco’s failure to secure its systems.
Without admitting wrongdoing, Sysco agreed to the settlement to resolve all claims.
Eligible individuals may receive the following benefits:
Expense Reimbursement: Up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses tied to identity theft, fraudulent charges, tax fraud, or other personal data misuse.
Residual Cash Payment: Estimated between $100 and $200, with a maximum of $599 depending on how many valid claims are submitted.
Credit Monitoring Services: Two years of free coverage, including dark web surveillance, real-time credit monitoring across all three major bureaus, $1 million in identity theft insurance, and access to fraud resolution specialists.
To claim any of the above, eligible individuals must submit a claim form by Sept. 8, 2025. No claim form is needed to receive credit monitoring, though signing up is required.
The settlement aims to compensate those affected by the breach and provide additional protection moving forward as cyber threats continue to rise.
